Subject: [ferrethealth] Small hard lump under skin
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

A few months ago I noticed a tiny hard bump under Mocha's skin but wasn't sure if it was a rib. She's extremely squirmy and doesn't respond to scruffing. The lump is a bit bigger now, just slightly lower than her rib cage. I thought it was attached to her enlarged spleen because it's difficult to get behind and the skin moves freely over it. The vet saw her today and held her still long enough to get a better look and feel. The lump itself is very dark in color, and appears through the skin as a deep purple brown. It's very hard, about 3-4mm in diameter, and the vet said she feels as if she may be able to get behind it and that it may be in the layer of muscle and not on the spleen.

She recommended it come out soon, since its so small and she said she would be removing surrounding muscle tissue, basically creating a hernia and then repairing it.

She said it was just a very odd lump, not something she ever encounters. Was just wondering if anyone has seen something like this and had it removed?
