Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: warts pathology question, and a leg injury
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Tonight I heard from Dr. Bruce Williams.

I'd kind of wondered about the idea of warts
since i know that sometimes either leiomyosarcoma
and sebaceous epithelioma can look like Mornie's
growths, even some hemangiomas look like one of
them according to one ref.

Anyway, warts are very rare in ferrets, so they are
possible but other growths in ferrets can look like warts, so...

Dr. Williams taught me that the cause of warts is
papillomaviruses rather than fungus -- which I know
was mentioned earlier today but I'd had very little sleep --
and that papillomaviruses are quite species specific.
He reassured us that Steve's warts have nothing to do
with Mornie's growths.

Morn tends to not do very well with surgery and is
being treated to maintain quality of life during her
final illnesses. So far, she is getting a good chunk
of time that way, and I'm sure she will probably try
to be too active too soon when this leg injury heals
a bit because she is someone who always lives life
at a rapid pace. We may need to dope her up a
little bit during those days to help her heal better.
