Hi Jamie,

I have a ferret who had a lump that colour removed from his head about 2 months ago - it turned out to be a hemangiosarcoma.

Fortunately, because it was in the skin the prognosis for my boy is excellent. It used to bleed off and on and my vet initially thought he had hit his head on something and injured himself. When it wasn't healing, the vet thought he must be re-injuring himself. I could not for the love of me figure out how and where. Finally after 4 months when it didn't heal - we opted to have it excised and biopsied.

Although it is unlikely it will recur the fur in the area where it was removed has grown in a dark brown on my champagne ferret. I check it regularly to make certain its only fur.

Hemangiosarcomas are far more serious if they are located internally and can hemorrhage and are prone to metastases. Hopefully you are dealing with something much more benign.

Tressie
