Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: BALD BABY FERRET????
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Thank you Sukie for all of your help with this little one.

There seem to be a misunderstanding on baby's age. I got 3 baby ferrets on 06/20/2010 from a man selling them at a Pet Expo/Swap Meet event. I was told they were all 6 to 7 weeks old when I got them that would make then almost 12 weeks old now. At time of getting them their eyes were open and they were eating can and dry cat food mixed together. All 3 ferrets had all of their hair and looked healthy, high energy levels and all.

The one that lost it hair was smaller then other 2 but was told it was a runt but it was the same age as the other 2 ferrets.

All 3 are housed together and eat the same foods.

All are growing and doing well still have high energy and look and act healthy only for some reason and it was in a matter of a week's time the smallest ones hair fall out. The other 2 this never happen too.

The vet that checked them all can not fine any thing out of the normal with this ferret to answer to why she has lost her fur.

There no parasites or skin rash, ferret has no itching and show no signs of stress.

We have nothing in the home like creams or anything that could gotten on the baby to cause this.

She plays and sleep same as the other 2

we give her lots of attention and they are kept clean and housed in soft blankets. I use yesterday news litter although none of them would even think of using the litter pan. I do think they want to keep it clean and pretty so I will not have to wash it daily. I change their blankets twice a day for they do soiled them and I do not want them sleeping in their waste.

I feed them a mix of ground chicken and turkey cooked in a tiny amount of unsalted butter only to stop it from sticking to the pan along with 8-1 in the white bag of ferret food, a dish of dry and also a dish soak in puppy replacement milk they are given bottle water to drink fresh 3 or 4 times a day for they do play in it. Mostly they eat the turkey and chicken only very little of the ferret food. Vet recommended I try her on some other foods and cut out the milk it maybe an allergy reaction to her food.

So for now where we have no clue to why she lost her hair and her being to young to show signs of an adrenal tumor we will try a few other things to see what we come up with.

Her CBC came back normal.

As of today she is still not growing in any of the hair.
