Wow.... not sure where to begin??!

Will do my best to do this in manageable steps:

- DO NOT mix the electroyte water with food! It is not designed to work that way. In fact, don't give it at all unless your vet has given you strict instructions in how to give it.

Did your vet say she was dehydrated? If she is, she needs sub-q hydration from your vet.

-DO NOT leave dog food out for her to eat. It is not suitable for ferrets. I had two ferrets surrendered to our rescue organization, who were both blind because they had been fed a diet of dog food. Dog food does not contain an essential organ acid necessary for ferrets - taurine.

- Mix the A/D you got from the vet with a little warm water. Wipe some on her mouth to give her a taste and then put some on your finger and let her lick it off your finger.

Is the A/D what you mean by canned cat food? A/D is used for sick carnivores, including ferrets and is excellent when they are ill or convalscing after surgery.

-Get KITTEN high quality kibble or canned food NOT cat food!

-Amoxicillin only lasts for 14 days from the time it is mixed from your pharmacist. It needs to be refrigerated and has to be thrown out after 14 days! Its not a medication that you can keep and use "just in case."

I suspect you may have missed critical information the vet gave you from some of the things you've written.

It is excellent that your vet referred to a text book to find out about ferrets if she doesn't normally see them!!

How far north of Edmonton are you? I would suggest that you contact the Alberta Ferret Society who may have a list of ferret friendly vets in your area. They will also provide you with information on how to care for your little girl, and if you are not able to care for her they will take her in as a surrender. Here is the link:

Start with this! And do contact the Alberta Ferret Society! They have a toll free number, which is on the website I gave you the link to.
