Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Kidney/Renal Disease or Failure?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Have there been known causes of acute kidney failure
like eating raisins, grapes, or currents?

The amounts of fluid that a ferret who needs to
recover from kidney failure are HIGH. If you can
not get enough into the ferret then IV is needed.

Now, I am sick so my memory may be faulty but I
seem to recall that for a male we have brought
through kidney failure twice (the first time due
to two malformations) and the second time it
was secondary to acute onset of temporary
post-surgical diabetes. If I remember right he
had to have at least 75 cc (ml) of fluid each day
but at least part of the time he needed 150 ml
each day. CHECK MY FIGURES BECAUSE I AM
FEVERING RIGHT NOW. The second time he was
on IV but the first time he had oral liquids,
wet food, and subcu I think twice a day.

The first time he was only in his first year, while
he was seven years old for the second.
