Brenda, this seems very strange and more than just coincidental. I currently have two boys on the Deslorelin implants and both responded very well, and pretty quickly. Pop (around age 3) had an enlarged prostate and rapid hair loss. The prostate was normal again within a week or so and his fur grew back within 6 weeks. Morphy (around 4-1/2 years) had the same two problems, but to a more aggressive degree, along with erratic behavior. I was concerned about his prostate blocking, but again, within about a week, all was normal, including urination. His fur has also grown back, at least most of it, and it was also within about 6-8 weeks. Neither ferret needed any other meds to help their prostate.
I'm wondering if any of the following are possible:
- Your vet got the wrong sized implants or the wrong type
- They were an expired batch
- They were implanted into the wrong part of the body
Just some thoughts, since I've had such good success with the Deslorelin, and would highly recommend it based on my experience.
