To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I want to say thank you to everyone for their replies both on and off list. I've started her on a mix of Gerbers turkey, Natural Balance feline green pea and duck (turned to dust in a coffee grinder) and Ferretvite, and am hoping it doesn't cause any new GI problems. I'm still adding omega 3 fish oil, coq10 enzyme and started a bit of Taurine tonight simply because she probably hasn't been getting any or much from the baby food.

I heard from our vet today and we will be repeating the usg, creatinine and bun Thursday. A lab technician was consulted and said the urine is dilute and is caused from drinking a lot of fluids instead of from not concentrating urine. Our vet said that doesn't explain the elevated hematocrit but doesn't have any ideas as to what is. I left a message asking if I should continue the extra fluids but haven't received an answer yet. I'm thinking I should since the kidney values are elevated.

Can anyone here explain how a ferret who is drinking lots of water, to the point that her urine is dilute, can have an elevated hematocrit which indicates dehydration? I found some possible causes online from a Mayo Clinic site but it pertains to humans and I don't want to confuse myself or anyone else by going into them here.

Thanks again.
