Subject: [ferrethealth] muscles and liver as insulin target tissues
To: fhl <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I was just reading a couple of articles in the July 27th Science about
endocrinological pathways leading to inflammatory effects from
obesity, and one had a short question which mentioned that the liver
and muscles are also target tissues for insulin.

That got me wondering about how those are affected in situations of
slowly progressing insulinoma (which often goes undiscovered for some
time), in cases with long survival, and in cases which are not
possible to control terribly well. It also got me wondering which
types of muscle may be more affected, for example, is smooth muscle
more affected than striated, or might muscle types respond in
different ways?

Insulinoma cases already vary a huge amount, so I am sorry for
introducing the possibility that there may be yet other ways that they
can vary, but it seemed an interesting question set, and perhaps
applicable for understanding some changes in these critters.
