Subject: [ferrethealth] diet food
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi there,

My 3 years old male ferret got sick with kidney failure last year. Since then, I've been keeping him on renal diet food for cats from Royal Canine. He is doing really fine, eating good, but it seems to me that his fur is some poor, so I'm thinking that maybe he doesn't take everything his body needs from this food.
I have a friend in USA and I want to ask her to send me some food and vitamins for ferrets. My request from you is if you could help me with a nice brand of diet food for my sick ferret. Money is not a problem so please advice me on the best products.

Thank you very much,

Roxana

[It is also possible that he has adrenal disease.
That is a common cause of fur problems. His
age is slightly young for it but certainly very possible,
and if he had an inflamed kidney that could have caused
some adrenal inflammation (something we encountered
in one in the past) which could have increased his
adrenal disease risk. The adrenals are right next to the
kidneys so when the kidneys swell the adrenals can be
rubbed way too much. If you are in Europe then Suprelorin
implants from the distributor Virbac SA may be a solution
for your ferret so check with your vet about what is wrong
and the options.
