Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: One more post on Loki
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

So this morning Loki woke me up to what use to be his normal routine...which is digging at the corner carpet to get out of the room and to go into the living room/kitchen. I let him out and he followed me to the kitchen for food. I made him a big dish of duck soup and he ate it all. I then gave him his meds which he took all willingly. He then moseyed around the living room like he normally did, cleaned his face off, and then starred at me. Are these not signs of a ferret who wants to live? I have been getting alot of posts to humanely euthanize him but its hard for me to do that when it seems like his conditions are getting better. This is not a deathly sick ferret anymore. He is not being force fed, lying in one spot ready to die...these are the problems I am facing. He seems to be telling me he wants to live. I have cut way back on his pain medicine which he was getting .8mls (max) and is now getting the minimum of .2mls...I am thinking about stopping them all to
gether since he is not expressing he is in pain anymore. His breathing has gotten better, although not slow as I would like it to be, but not nearly as fast as it was 2 nights ago, and also his mouth is closed which I found it opened with him breathing out of it 2 nights ago. I'm going to make a call to the doctor asking for some meds to reduce the workload on the heart and pray that its not lymphoma and maybe a heart condition. I am also going to ask if there is a non-invasive way to rule out lymphoma and rule that it is cardiomypology.

Does anyone agree with me that I should hold off on euthanizing or am I just refusing to let go of my baby?

Is this not suffocation and would it not be a bad way to go? Or would it be as peaceful as being humanely euthanized? I do not want to [do] him out of days being alive but I also do not want him to dye of suffocation. Please I need help in making this decision.
