Dr. Jerry Murray has advised seeing

http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/ferrethealth/message/13610

and I agree strongly.

I just learned a LOT from that article on mycobacteria in general (The
article is not for any given species of mycobacteria) in ferrets:
1. It usually does not become serious unless a secondary infection is
present
2. A number can have a less serious presentation of the illness or
have it silently
3. It can be contagious ferret to ferret

So, it is just one more thing to just know can happen WHILE ALSO
KNOWING THAT IT USUALLY DOES NOT BECOME SERIOUS, and is not something
to cause a panic, but IS something to be aware can be present.

If as many posts on any lists anywhere with panic over announcements
of any new ferret illnesses were equaled in number by people taking
precautions to avoid the spread of influenza or canine distemper a lot
(*****LOT!*****) more ferret lives would be saved...

So, DEFINITELY LEARN but JUST AS DEFINITELY DO NOT PANIC.
