Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Sabre's broken femur
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Locations with previous breaks are more prone
to a variety of problems: arthritis, incorrect
bone knitting, and permanent soft tissue
injury are among them

This means that arthritis could be irritated, or
even that a further injury such as a bad sprain
would be possible (previously broken or dislocated
joints remain vulnerable to later sprains) if the
medical team was using a strict hold to avoid a
bite, but failed to specially protect that leg or
did not realize that they should due to a
miscommunication.

So, that is definitely a possibility given that leg
has the previous history which it has and given
that it has kicked up on and off through the
years.

A sprain does not explain that seizure, though. What
was it like? Petite mal or grande mal?

A new break COULD explain the seizure. The femur and
the innominate (the three bones comprising the hips)
have the largest amount of marrow in them of any of
the body's bones, and after a break marrow can dislodge
and travel to places where it can cause trouble:
kidneys, lungs, brain. One to the brain can produce a
seizure or other CNS type of symptoms.

I think that might need to be among the possibilities
considered.

Sabre is with me. He is going on 4 yrs old. He does show signs of soreness in that leg on some days. It is evident he had quite a bit of psychological trauma as well with the injury so he is a special needs fuzzy. He is a happy ferret, and a bit of a bully at times.
