Subject: [ferrethealth] My ferret's size
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My ferret passed away a couple of months ago, she was 3 and I don't know what happened to her, she just was gone. Poor girl. I do have a question about her though. I saw these pictures of a woman with her ferrets and they were bigger than the woman's forearms. Woozle (my girl) never got much bigger than when I got her. She grew some, sure but she never got anywhere near the size of the two that woman had. Are all ferrets small and hers were freaks of nature? Was it because she was a Marshall's ferret? Was it because she was spayed before 6 months? Was it because she refused to eat meat and ate only kibble?

[Unaltered male ferrets are larger than altered males,
but unspayed females are smaller than spayed females.

Basically, leaving ferrets whole increases sexual dimorphism

Her ferrets may be unaltered males.

A balanced diet of any type won't make a difference.

There are some lines which are smaller than most, and
other lines which are larger than others.

Years ago we used to hear a lot about demigigas
ferrets who were much larger than most, and I've
seen another very large line years ago when visiting
Montana.

Her ferrets may be from a line with larger individuals
than yours.
