Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] My ferret's size
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I had a ferret named Romana. I don't know if she was the runt of the
litter or if she was stunted because of malnutrition when she was very
young. A pet store got her at five weeks of age and didn't know to
give her soft food. When we got her she was crying continuously and
probably literally starving. Once given soft food she ate until she
literally fell asleep on the food bowl. She just gorged herself. Not
a good situation for a kit at less than six weeks.

Anyway, her normal summer weight was about 400g (14 ounces) and in the
winter she may was usually under 600g. She was tiny her entire life
and looked like a young kit her entire life. That life was over seven
years long. She was a fearless jumper and climber, too, and very good
at both.

Small size, especially in a female ferret, does not necessarily
indicate a problem.

All the best,
Caity and the terrific trio
(Ella, Zephyr and Chin Soon)
