Subject: [ferrethealth] Prazosin in ferrets? Atonal bladder from distention?
To: fhl <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>, Ferret Mailing List <ferret-l@LISTSERV.FERRETMAILINGLIST.ORG>

Right now I am in the middle of arranging something for very elderly
and ill in-laws so will have to search later, but I need to know what
people have used for atonal bladder in ferrets (if dosing is known
that is better yet).

We just got Hilbert's urine and blood values back and all are
improving except for ALT but that is due to the steroids Hilbert needs
so not a concern. Antibiotics will continue for another 2 weeks.

He sometimes needs help going to the bathroom. For defecation it is a
matter of gentle massage along the transverse colon to the descending
colon to get it past the spleen. Urination is more of a problem.
Using a washcloth with warm water and simulating mom's licking helps
but even then sometimes a finger has to be placed on each side of his
shaft and very gentle pressure applied to get him started.

He may have developed atonal bladder during the infection from his
bladder being too enlarged. I'll look up past posts on Prazosin,
megabladder, "distended bladder", and "Atonal bladder" when I finish
tending to the other needs, but these days there is so much to do and
so many needs come up suddenly that that may be in 10 minutes or it
might not be possible for hours. Opps. It can't be in ten minutes.
I got so busy that I forgot my own glaucoma med so have to tackle that
first...
