Subject: [ferrethealth] Distemper info
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hi everyone. I found a real nice plastic sturdy doghouse and large dog carrier out for the trash this morning so I stopped and picked them up. After I handled them and put them in my car and unloaded at home the thought of distemper popped in my head and I got scared. I picked them up for a friend. Anyways, could there be distemper germs/bacteria on hard plastic and if so how long could it live? What can I use to clean/disinfect these things? Bleach or cleaner with bleach? My six ferrets are not vaccinated and I do not want to risk carrying anything to them. Thanks for your help.

[CDV does not live long outside the body from
what I have read.
Ah, here you are:

has the info and why including how the
fatty envelop can limit survival to about
a half hour under adverse conditions, but
how it can persist for years if frozen.
