Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Prazosin for bladder atonal bladder
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi Sukie
Prazosin is used to relax the smooth muscles, but it is
rarely used in small animals. Likewise phenoxybenzamine is
used to relax the smooth muscles but not used often. Flomax (tamsulosin)
is the better and safer choice to relax the smooth muscles in the urinary
sysytem (prostate, urethra, and neck of the bladder).
Now for a product to help the bladder contract better, bethanechol can be
used. The cat dose is 1.25 to 5 mg per cat, 3 times a day.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM</HTML>
