Subject: [ferrethealth] Hilbert update
To: fhl <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

We tried a ferret body temp (about 102'F) soak with Hilbert yesterday
figuring he would hate it but that the options were becoming slim.

It helped!

He urinated a bit more easily afterward and his skeletal muscles
seemed more comfy since he was moving around more easily.

About halfway through the day he asked me for another. Pointing to
the towel we'd used to dry him (which was sitting on the floor waiting
to go into our closet clothing washer) then leading me to the
bathtub. So, we did it again with even more progress.

Before bed we did another soak for him and he improved even more.

Possibilities we are considering given these results are
1. That he may have had crystals in his urethra from the UTIs under
treatment and the soaks dissolved at least some of them.
or/and
2. He may profit from a muscle relaxant because perhaps his urethral
muscles get too tight.
or/and
3. There could be residual inflammation (which goes back to things
like crystals possibly being present in his urethra).

One of our vets (They are in the same practice.) is reading up on
related approaches and other approaches to urinary difficulties in
ferrets.
