Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Any FDA okayed Leuprolide Acetate depot AS THE GENERIC?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

[The question is NOT if there is generic Lupron.
That drug has been around long enough for
generics.

The question is if there is an FDA approved
generic OF THE TIME RELEASE FORM
rather than the daily form of Lupron, and
that is an entirely different question.

So, unless the creator of the depot asks for a generic sooner that is the soonest there can be a generic of it in the U.S. If they work up a modification or variation then it can be later. So, extra cautions to anyone thinking of buying something claiming to be generic version of Lupron depot over the internet (and the reminder that it could be seized because it is in direct competition with actual U.S. patented Lupron depot).

Leuprolide acetate is marketed by TAP Pharmaceuticals and Abbott Laboratories under the brand name Lupron, by Bayer under the brand name Viadur, and by Sanofi-Aventis under the brand name Eligard.

Viadur (which is, interestingly, an implant) was FDA approved in March 2000 and Eligard in January 2002.

In addition, Lupride (the generic alternative that I've been using for, I suppose, near two years now), does have FDA approval. See here....

A google search will provide more info (sorry, I'm short on time).

As for buying online, it is safe so long as you do your homework. Check the credentials of the pharmacy, and pharmacist, you intend to buy from, expect them to check the credentials of the doctor prescribing the medication (and if they don't, you should be concerned) and do not buy from any online supplier claiming that no rx is needed.
