HI, Jeff, and everyone else,

Chronic pancreatitis does interfere with the digestion of food. The
result is that the body cannot process the nutrients and the result is
unexplained weight loss. My ferret Pertwee had this problem. He was
treated with Viokase-V powder mixed into soft food (Bob Church's
Chicken Gravy). The replacement pancreatic enzymes allowed him to get
the nutrition he needed from his food and he gradually returned to a
normal body weight.

I hope this helps.

All the best,

[Reminder:
Things will be changing for replacement
pancreatic enzyme sales. Too many forms
had effectiveness problems.

I can not quickly find the original article
but know that the products may change
(hopefully for the better since they are
supposed to be able to show effectiveness
once that change goes into effect) and know
that some may go away. The article MIGHT
be at the FDA news release website, or the
USDA one, or AniPharm News, or elsewhere
in archives.

Then again, I have been so busy that
perhaps I am misremembering and it is
another replacement product category...
