Subject: [ferrethealth] What Is This a Symptom Of?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
He sure could be battling an insulinoma. That blood glucose is normal but it was after Nutrical. I would be worried about adrenal disease with subsequent prostate enlargement causing the bladder blockage. I would also be concerned about running bloodwork to see if and how bad his kidneys were affected so please take him to your normal ferret vet ASAP. The panting could be seizures associated with insulinoma or possibly seizures associated with kidney failure. Good luck!

My ferret crashed this morning, we thought it was insulinoma. Took him to the emergency vet, turned out his bladder was full. Had it cathertized, and the bladder drained (blood sugar at that point, after Nutrical) was 100.
He is now coming out of anesthesia and doing a lot of open mouth panting. He is taking some water, but it seems to be an automatic response (touch the tip of his tongue with a drop of water, and he licks for more), so I don't know how completely he's out of the anesthesia.
Could the panting be a sign of something else? Could he ALSO be fighting insulinoma? Any help would be appreciated, as the night vet at the animal ER doesn't do ferrets (which is why we brought him home instead of waiting for him to come out of anesthesia at the vet's office)...
