Subject: [ferrethealth] Mast cell tumors and pred
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have just taken in a six-year old male ferret, mostly white but he
is so naked it is hard to tell. What he does have is a bunch of
mast-cell tumors, I think there are seven scattered across his body with
one on the tail. Two are larger and redder than the others. Would pred
help to slow the formation of these down? Aside from the obvious adrenal
problem he is good condition, playful and active. He came in with a
naked female but she is younger and doesn't have any skin tumors.

Thanks,

[Has this one been biopsied to KNOW
that they are mast cell tumors
instead of another form of skin
tumor or even infections?

If the people were just assuming they
are mast cell tumors and you have
not had them biopsied then they
might be or might not be.

A veterinary visit is the first stop for
this little one.

NEVER give medications unless a
treating veterinarian tells you to do so.

No, if they are mast cell tumors Pred
will not help. If they are infections
under the skin then they might worsen.
