Subject: [ferrethealth] Scent glands on Onyx
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I took Onyx in to the vet for a check on hard lumps where his scent glands would be. They could not be expressed so in to surgery he went. Our vet found a remnant of scent gland that had abcessed. When the original removal was done, only part of the scent glands were removed. I have three rescues from the same breeder with this medical problem. Our vet removed the remainder of the scent gland which was made more difficult and bled more because of scar tissue. When the remnant broke open a thick yellow/tan gunk oozed out but there was no typical scent gland poof odor. Because of the extent of this surgery the other smaller gland remnant was left alone at this time. If anyone needs to know who the breeder was they can email me directly.
