Subject: [ferrethealth] Deslorelin Implant - replacement??
To: Ferret Health <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

My ferret, Gizzie, received a deslorelin implant in early September of 2009. Recently, I questioned my vet about whether or not a replacement implant would be necessary at some point and he seemed to think it wasn't possible to replace. He indicated the implant should last for up to 2 years. He suggested if we see symptoms of adrenal again that we add lupron injections back into the mix. Anyone have any experience with replacing the implant??

Thanks,
Michelle

[They usually last about 8 months to
18 months but last longer for some.

As a result many use the annual
schedule for getting a new implant
put in.

Our Mornie who has a large enough
right carcinoma that you can actually
see it through her skin now is getting
her second implant soon. In her case it
is approaching 8 months but with a
huge carcinoma it pays to do them
closer together.
