Subject: [ferrethealth] how do i stop my new ferret from chewing electric cords?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

he is chewing on the wiring from tv to dvd player.?
what can i do to pervent this???

I found a small place where the cord had been chewed and it is missing. so i think he swallowed it. I am watching him and he is doing ok.
he coughed once. since he is about 12 weeks old and feret lax says do not give until at least 6 months of age.
so i give him a tiny very tiny drop to lick 2 tmes a day to be safe.

any advice on how to stop this
and if the small piece is safe for him..
as vet is not open on sunday.

[If it is the plastic coating that is not safe for him.
Also, consider whether the appliance is not safe
now or may have become a fire or electrical discharge
hazard.

Try cord covers (These are tubes
that are specially made for this use) or
using one of the bitter products designed
to stop pet chewing, or both.

If he got plastic in him then it might move with the
use of laxatives such as Petroleum jelly based
ones, but if he becomes perforated or fully
blocked then he needs rapid emergency
surgery.

Always keep a copy on hand of your emergency options
outside the vet hospital hours.
