Nothing you described is normal. An "exotic" vet may or may not be a
ferret vet. Ferrets are very special critters. I would check the
recommended vet lists as Sukie suggested:

If you tell us where you are someone on list may be able to give you a
second recommendation. A second opinion, especially in a case like
this, never hurts.
How old is Poe? How did the vet determine there are "lots of tumors"?
