Hi Dr. Heather:

Morphy didn't have time for us to try different things like that. His bile back up was horrible and caused throat ulcerations, so he wouldn't eat, and it was hard to get any oral meds into him, even the carafate. He was only surviving because he was on IV for 4 days, and had 2 good ferret vets taking care of him, and he was scared and lonely at the vet hospital. I saw him every day, and he was always shaking, but would calm down after a half hour in my arms. He just didn't have time to try things, and he wouldn't have survived for very long without the IV for hydration, antibiotics, and nutrition. The vets had never seen bilirubin numbers nearly as high in any animal... over 100. His bile back up was basically lethal if not for the IV treatments to keep him going. He was very weak, and worn out from fighting this for nearly 2 weeks. He had a very peaceful last night at home, and passed as peacefully as one could hope while in my arms at the vet's today. I miss him
terribly, but know that there was really no other choice.

Jeff

If he is feeling better, I wouldn't give up on him yet. Has your vet thought about trying Ursodiol. This product helps with gallbladder blockages, etc. If he is feeling miserable, then euthanasia is the most humane choice but if you can provide supportive care at home until a drug like Ursodiol starts working it may be worth a shot. Good luck.
Dr. Heather
