Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: cyclophosphamide for lymphoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

There is a protocol your vet can get from Tufts that uses only oral and SQ meds for lymphoma treatment. It is called the COP protocol. Your vet can call Tufts and they can fax the protocol to him/her. You want to make sure that your ferret 100% has lymphoma which usually means histopathology done on an enlarged lymph node. Sometimes you can get a good fine needle aspirate of a lymph node but most of the time you can't. Lymphoma CAN NOT be diagnosed with blood work alone. Just because lymphocytes are elevated in the blood DOES NOT mean the ferret has lymphoma. Good luck.

My vet mentioned another chemo drug called cyclophosphamide that she would look into on trying by itself with the pred. I looked on here and found that its been mentioned using the 2 in combination, but no results were mentioned or if it helped or not. Does anyone have any experience with this? He is pretty high up there with the dose of pred..and is gaining so much weight on it...4.05 lbs. Please let me know if you've used this combination and whether it was beneficial and prolonged life or not. I am told the drug is relatively inexpensive.
