To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
My ferret Ozzy was diagnosed through ultrasound and xrays with lymphoma on July 15, 2009. He had tumors in both sides of his chest and abdomen. He was just slightly over 4 (born 4-26-05) when he was diagnosed. We started the Tufts protocol (all subq) right after his ultrasound on July 15, 2009. Ozzy went through the entire protocol and was finished in Jan 2010. He is currently on the last few steps of the protocol.
When he finished the protocol we began a regiment of cytoxin (cyclophosphamide) and cytosar (cytarabine) & leukeran x2 days. Cytoxin was given then 3 weeks later we did cytosar and leukeran for 2 days. Ozzy is now on this regiment every 6 weeks and he is still here and still doing fantastic. We have also cut the dosage in half for each of these treatments every six weeks. This protocol does work but it is a huge time and monetary commitment.
During the 1st few months of the protocol I was at the vet every single week for either treatments or blood work. After that I was at the vet every 2 weeks, now I go every 6 weeks with him but usually get a CBC once or twice during those 6 weeks just to make sure he is still ok and that nothing crops up without me knowing.
My vet has used this protocol many times but Ozzy is the only one who has made it all the way through with no problems and is still here and doing fantastic.

There is a SubQ protocol I have used which works pretty nicely but don't do chemo often, most of my clients don'e want to make the investment. Take care and good luck. This drug is part of the whole protocol and certainly can't hurt.
