Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: cutting there nails
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

It is easier with ferrets to cut their nails because they are clear, compared to some black nailed dogs.. I put ferretone on the ferret's stomach, while ferret is licking I cut the nails.

Anyway, cut to just above the pink line (quick or the vein of the nail), just above that there is a thicker white line- then the nail is more clear. Cutting too close to the thicker white part just above the quick is sensitive. Cutting the actual quick will cause bleeding. If you dont' have help and unsure just cut so the nail is not curved and not sharp pointy as this will catch on hammocks and stuff.
I just googled "quick of the nail" and found 2 really good pictures to demonstrate, so try that, will be same as cat nails.
