Subject: [ferrethealth] Update re: ferret gaining 9 ounces within one month
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Today at the vet she presented with rapid breathing. Squeaky breath sounds. Distended abdomen. Excessive weight gain since 3 weeks ago at same vet. She was also mildly lethargic this morning and moved around very little.
Vet diagnosed her with Lymphoma. Mass in chest cavity causing the squeaky and rapid breathing. Possible tumors on liver and other organs causing ascites visible on xray. Possible other tumors on other organs.
We put her on pred and if her symptoms seem to respond to the pred we will try cytoxin(I think that is the drug the vet said). Right now vet feels she is not in pain but she is not a surgical candidate since she has masses/tumors in multiple locations, her weight and breathing trouble with the mass in her chest.
We hope the pred gives her some quality and keeps her around with us but we are prepared the lymphoma may be too advanced for the pred to help any.
