I have had 2 ferrets with adrenal and both have had surgery. Emma needed lupron
shots every month, I had her put down last December as the adrenal had came
back. She was also 6 yrs old and had a very hard time with the first surgery.
Eve had the adrenal surgery 6 months prior to Emma, and required no further
treatment until recently. She has needed melatonin implants to help her. Since
she is nearing 6 yrs of age it may be the best option for her as well. The vet
who is very knowledgeable about ferrets told me that it is not uncommon for it
to come back. She was surprised that Eve had went almost 2 yrs without any
problems as it usually reappears within 1 yr. I will continue to do the
implants for Eve until her quality of life diminishes or when she lets me know
she has had enough of life.
