Subject: [ferrethealth] Post-Suprelorin implant adrenal surgery & biopsy
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hi,
I just want to share my Suprelorin experience. The treatment option I've chosen for my early stage adrenal girl is the Deslorelin implant coupled with surgery. The hope is to remove diseased tissue and protect the remaining gland (assumption: few clinical symptoms will involve the left adrenal only) My girl was altered 2 weeks into her first estrus. She's now over 5.5 years old
I had tried the annual, preventve Luporn (my vet uses the 4-month depot because clients may try one injection and fail to follow up), but this did not seem to help prevent adrenal issues. If fact, the depot seemed to "pool" under the kin, so we wonder of the lupron was even getting absorbed into their systems. All of my kids are mildly adrenal with some rat tail (but not every year) and the "over-grooming" behaviors. These are the only symptoms they've had.
The implants were injected mid-Agust. My 4 "brats" have definitely slacked off with their "over-grooming" of each other ince their implants. Srgery was performed on my girl last wednesday. I'm pleased to report that she breezed through the surgery and is already back playng with her "siblings" less than a week later. :-)
Here's the interesting part from the pathology report...
>From Description:
"...The adrenal tissue containsan area of fibrosis with some interspersed aggregates of mildly hypertrophic well-differentiated cortical epithelial cells. This change is observed within relatively otherwise normal-appearing cortical tissue..."
>From Description:
"...The area of fibrosis described within the adrenal gland may be an area of fibrosis within the adrenal tumor that responded/regressed subsequent to the Suprelorin implant..."
>From Comments:
"The area of fibrosis described within the adrenal gland may be an area of fibrosis within an adrenal tumor that responded/regressed subsequent to the Suprelorin implant."
I'm hoping that these implants continue to work over time - I've got my fingers crossed!!!
