Subject: [ferrethealth] thinning tail.. What are my options?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have the sweetest little girl ferret that has ever graced this planet and I
will do anything to save her. She has had a thinning tail for the past 3
months. She is only 2 years old. What are my options? I talked to my exotics
vet.. Supposedly the most knowledgable of ferrets in the city. He says even
when the tail thinning is "seasonal" (which was my hunch) that it's usually
early signs of adrenal disease (even if the fur grows back). I am worried sick
about my baby girl. I will do anything to stop this. What is my first step?
My vet didn't seem to think there was anything to do at this stage... Though we
were there for another pet when we discussed it.. He hasn't actually seen her..
He said they don't do testing to confirm adrenal there at his clinic so I didn't
see any reason to take her in just yet. Please help!

Thank you,
Misty

[Thinning tail fur is at times just
dermal though it can happen
with adrenal disease.

You could try either a Lupron
depot, not the daily form, or a
Suprelorlin implant, not the daily
form of deslorelin.

Alternatively, the hospital could
send a specimen to U TN for the
Tennessee Panel. You will find
that in the archives under that
Name and TN Panel. Have the
animal hospital Send directly
To them to not be charged an arm
and a leg since intermediaries add
on huge charges.
