Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret, Dewi, also with insulinoma - a question about recent additional symptom

Dewi (a rescue ferret age 6yo)on arrival in April 2009 had an obstructed urethra which was cleared by my veterinarian. In the fall of 2009 he developed signs of insulinoma (unsteadiness, low BG) and was put on prednisone. Gradually increased to 2.5mg twice daily. I think he had exploratory surgery but cannot find it in my records (will ask at the vet's today). Recently - before this recent worsening of symptoms, he had shown improvement in eating and general appearance on the regimen of amoxicillin, pepcid, and diazoxide. In the last 24 hours he has had a few short episodes of panting. I wondered if that is due to spread of what the vet thinks is lymphoma to the temperature regulating part of the brain? We are off to the vet this am so am not feeling very optimistic, but was curious about the hyperventilating - if that is what it was.
