Subject: [ferrethealth] question - hair loss
To: "FG-ferrethealth" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I took in a female rescue, approximately two years old. She had a small bald patch at the nape of her neck. She had fleas and was scratching, so I assumed it was from that. Since then, the base coat has grown in. However, the guard coat has not and she now has an area of about 5" with only a base coat and no guard coat. She scratches incessantly. I've been giving her .1 mg of liquid antihistamine two times per day for about five days and this stops the itching. My first thought is adrenal disease, but I've never seen it affect only the guard hairs and not the base hairs. Thoughts? Debbie Whorley, Kindness Matters Ferret Rescue, Acworth, GA
