My experience with Babs bears out Dr Ruth's post. My veterinarian originally prescribed (a few months ago)Enalapril at 1/8 tab daily and furosemide/aka lasix 0.25 mls 2xdaily for Babs who was 2.9 pounds originally (she's been on pred for six months for insulinoma). Babs has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. (Hope I remembered that correctly). I was also told to try and make her exercise and get her weight down with walks. Fat chance - Babs did not cooperate on walkies. I took her back in recently since she looked squinty eyed and was not very interested in walking any further than the food bowl. The second ultrasound still showed a fair amt of fluid around her heart and the vet increased the furosemide to 3.5 mls 2x a day, and the enalapril to 1/4 tab daily. Bab now weighs 2.7 pounds - and the vet says some of it is still fluid, but she is doing a lot better
