Subject: [ferrethealth] Update on C.Wheats
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Last week I consulted the vet feeling as it was time for Cocoawheats to get her wings.

The vet felt her symptoms of being continuously restless, aggitated, constant drinking, eating and pottying, were due to her high dose of pred she had been on for a month. She has had great stool and her mass in her chest was shrunk down allowing her to breath easy so her tumors did not seem to be the total culprit of her new symptoms. I explained to the vet she was up every 10 minutes to drink or eat or to use the potty never getting to rest or sleep. She looked miserable and uncomfortable to me too tired to keep her eyes open wide. I was at a loss seeing she still wanted to be held and ate and drank and wanted her favorite treat sticks.

He lowered her dose of .4ml of 15mg/5ml every 12 hours of prednisolone to .2ml every 12 hours.

Cocoawheats since has really improved. She still has hind-end weakness at times when she mills around - but she rests so peacefully now. She sleeps like her old self with her tongue out looking comfortable. With less trips to the food, water and potty box she overall is happier. She doesn't whimper when I fuss with her anymore and she is hiding some of her old favorite toys again. She also uses the potty box every time. I wanted to update everyone. I felt I learned a lesson here to really review what the medications could be doing or adding too the ferret's comfort and symptoms and not assuming it was the disease itself progressing. I know with the pred lowered her tumors could grow but the vet feels being on the pred for a month might have given her some time in a sort of remission.
Again thank you for all your support!
Di
