In the case of Sugar my first ferret to be implanted, at the time of her 3rd.implant's due date (12 mth after second) there was a delay of 3 weeks due to ordering fault at the vets office. There was no symptoms at the 12 mth date but by the 3 wks had passed her vulva had started to swell, this returned to normal within a few days of the new implant.
I am planning to give her the 9.4mg implant at six mths time then hopefully to last a full 12 mths.
Dr Shoemaker the originator of this treatment, recommends either 6 monthly renewal of 4.7mg or 9.4mg to last 12 months if 4.7mg does not last 12 mths.
Suki is on her 2nd. implant with, so far, no symptoms
