Hi Becky,

some medicines are hard on the kidneys... and IF your ferret had an undiscovered renal issue this might have aggrvated things.

I mention renal issues from past experiences caring for ferrets in the shelte3r ( 15 yrs).
Mouth ulcers are common side effects of kidney disease / failure.
Is your vet very experienced with ferrets? I only ask because for him to dismiss tooth grinding as a pain indicator
would make me think he is not well versed in reading ferrets. A muscle spasm? I suspect the vet may have been referriong to a seizure type display which can be observed in a ferret with low blood glucose, and this would be a major concern as well, not simply dismissed....

I would be concerned with his experience, if this were my ferret

Stomach ulcers can be treated with carafate/sucralfate suspension in addition to antibiotics. This may also help the mouth ulcers, but it is important to find out by checking BUN and Creatnine levels whether the infection (suggested by high white cell counts)is based in th4e kidneys . Infection is only one possibility for the increased white cell count, but it is the condition which can be successfully treated.

I am not sure if the panacur is a sulfur based drug== that is why I mentioned you may want to confer with the vet. Any medication given to ferrets needs to be monitored as if they are not drinking enough fluid it could cause health issues.

Hoping you get answers and your ferret makes a full recovery,
