Sukie,

Thanks so much for the links you have listed below. I did want to let you know where we are at this point with Mollie.

She is still open mouth breathing but I did want you to know what transpired at the vet appt. on Monday, Dec. 20th.

We had an appt with our regular vet but he went home sick so we saw one of the other vets, who is the ownr of the practice and he actually listened to some of my questions and suggestions.

I asked about a nasal duct flush, and he said yes they do it but since it requires sedation he would like to try this first to see if this will work to avoid that because of the sedation.

So she is on Zithromax for an antibiotic, pred for 4 days as a steroid, omperazole continued, saline solution 2 to 3 times a day and also neopolydex a nose drop also. So I guess we will try all of this to avoid the flushing but if she continues after that to still open mouth breathing then we will have to look at that. The sad thing is the vet leaves tomorrow for 2 weeks, we have Xmas holiday hours upon us, there are no 24 hour emergency care facilities for ferrets - so that is where we are at.

We are running a vaporizer in hopes that may help. She had gained an ounce when we brought her in for the appt. She continues to eat her soup and ferretvite which is something at this point.

She has like sneezing fits at times and when we use the nose drops we will normally see some blood come out of her nose.

Are there any vets still on this group? Just wondered what there thoughts would be on this subject.

Thanks so much, Sukie - Cindy

[Yes, there are quite a number of vet members but not all
reply publicly, and vets often tend to be extremely busy this
time of year, I'm afraid.
