Subject: [ferrethealth] female ferret with "vaginitis"?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a bald girl approximately 5-6 years old and she is bald and has been bald (2 years) despite using melatonin implants, monthly lupron injections and a des implant this past May. She has had a slightly swollen vulva for awhile and now it is a bit bigger, has some pus and is very red and sore looking I think from rubbing. She had a melatonin implant done about 1 month and two weeks ago and then a monthly lupron injection done about 3 weeks ago and is due for another lupron injection the end of this week. She went to the vets again today and she thinks it could possibly be a incomplete spay. Is this possible with a ferret this old? or could it be complications from adrenal disease where nothing is working. She is going to be scheduled for a ultrasound as soon as the ultrasound tech comes this way and we will schedule a exploritory if need be after that. Does anyone have any thoughts? She has been getting Melatonin implants and monthly lupron injections for about two
years and nothing has worked as far as her hair growing back and her hoo hoo has been somewhat larger for awhile even after the Superlorin implant. She is on a antibiotic for a prolapsed rectum as she has been probably rubbing both by scooting. I am now washing her bum and hoohoo twice daily and applying desitin max strength baby ointment and holding her for 15 mintues for it to disapate. She is also in a big Martins playpen loaded with shredded paper per instructions of my vet so she cannot rub on anything to irritate her bottom and she only has a cotton material crackle sack to sleep in as pieces of fleece were sticking to her privates. I feel so badly for her and frustrated because I cannot seem to make it "go away". Please help. Thank you in advance.
