Subject: [ferrethealth] re" kidney problems/causes
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Regarding this bit of text from an e mail about kidney
problems/causes recently:

"Often grapes, raisins and currants can be causes
and we are in the holiday season with many things
containing those. They can cause kidney problems
for ferrets, dogs, and cats. Plus, ferrets stash them
and may eat a lot at once later."

Grapes 7 raisins are nephrotoxins for ferrets. So they
aren't "often" a problem....they will always toxic for
their kidneys.

Best,
Jilli + 4

[This is an example of being able to read a sentence in 2 ways.

They are often a problem for ferrets in that when ferrets
have acute kidney problems often the cause will be either
raisins or grapes or currants. "Often" refers to how much they
seem to come up as a cause or possible cause, not how potent
they are, as used in this sentence, but thanks for emphasizing the
need for cautiion.

When eating them will cause serious problems is partly
dose dependent but it might vary some among individuals, with
being more vulnerable.

So, it is best to never give them.
