Tumble has been on metacam (4 drops daily) for at two weeks now. We stopped the metacam after a week and he started teeth grinding again so we put him back on it the day after. We gradually have reduced the dosage to 3 drops and now two drops.
I spoke to the vet just now and he said that if he is needing the metacam it is obviously pain related and not gut related as metacam doesn't help with inflamation. He said it could be jaw bone related or head related but we don't have any real way of finding out. He said it would be a good idea to take him to a specialist. The only one I know of is GWR which is ages away from me (surrey area) does anyone know of a nearer ferret specialist?
Anyway for now we have decided to continue the metacam (3 drops) for another 2/3 weeks and see if it helps and re-evaluate then. I think this would rule out the possibility of ulcers and give them a chance to heal IF it is ulcers- not too sure on that one though??
Meanwhile, Tumble is 1kg 175g as appose to 900g (the same as maisy one of my jills) just 2 weeks ago. Before he was ill he was 1kg 600g. He is eating well, drinking well, and going out with the main group during the day and coming back in at night. He has worked out how to escape from his cage and is playing tug of war.
Does anyone have any experience of anything simular or can anyone offer some advice?
I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do after the metacam.
Thanks in advance!
