Subject: [ferrethealth] Adrenal Post-op vomiting
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I had Emmy in yesterday for an adrenalectomy. It was a left adenoma. Everything else including pancreas looked good. She went in a very good healthy happy ferret just balding with a naked tail and undercoat gone and had a slightly enlarged vulva. She came home eating and by 6pm being nauseous vomiting everything out of her stomach and even water on her lips caused her to vomit temp was 96.4. Emergency vets in the night gave her sub q fluids and injection of metoclopramide. Brought her to regular vet in am. Temp bck up 100 which was good. Have her on dextrose drip and IV fluids. Vet just called and she still won't eat even a lick of nutrical but hasn't vomited (I don't think there is anything left in her to vomit). They are giving it another 2 hours if she still is nauseous and not eating they want her transferred to emergency hospital overnight to keep fluids and dextrose going.
What the heck could have happened? A reaction to the anesthetic? I kept her with a warming disc and had warm baby food every couple hours but then 6pm BAM she was horrible. She was prescribed buprenex and clavomox when originally sent home. The symptoms started before readministration of the buprenex and before the clavamox was started.
