He is going to another vets on thursday to get a second opinion as I'm not very happy with the vet whose treating him. I certainly don't want to keep him on metacam for the rest of his life either which is what my vet suggested I could do! I just don't understand how anything abdominal or gut related has been ruled out. Anyway I'll let you know how we get on on thursday :)
