Subject: [ferrethealth] fasting ferrets and anesthesia
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I think that fasting a ferret for 6 hours is too long (IMHO), but, I'm not a
vet. I would imagine that the reason a vet wants a ferret to fast is the
same reason you have to fast before any surgery/anesthesia. I think it has
to do with vomiting under the anesthesia and choking.

[Most ferrets will have their stomachs
empty much sooner than 6 hours, which
leads to the question if a staff member
said this rather than a vet due to
generalizing from larger animals with
slower digestion.
