Subject: [ferrethealth] Emmy update with more ?'s.

Emmy went back to the emergency vets this afternoon. There we met a vet who knew ferrets and was on Emmy's case fast. Unlike our regular vet office who said a cathedar couldn't be done - this vet and her staff did one (Emmy pulled it out) and did another and taped it in a way Emmy can't rip it out again. So knowing she could receive IV fluids I felt better already.
This ER vet ran blood work.
Kidney and Liver function great! Blood sugar one blood test showed 60 one showed 83 so that was better than I thought. Potassium electrolytes etc. were good too.
However the vet said she was so dehydrated despite my syringe fluids every hour or so from vomiting that she was a prune. The number was off the charts. Her blood was like sludge and it has slowed and almost stopped the motility of her GI. So we admitted her for the evening and night and she has a plan of regland more doses spaced out and fluids a big bolus then fluids then two big boluses at separate times again. she really feels fluid is her main problem.
I was told yesterday that Emmy didn't receive any fluids during her adrenal surgery since they could not get a cath in at her vet office. Being fasted 4 hours + and then not having fluids during surgery, could this have started or caused her downspiral?
