A couple of months is a long time to go between blood glucose tests for an =
insulinomic ferret. You may be surprised to find how low his BG might be n=
ow. Chances are he=E2=80=99ll need an increase in his pred, and I=E2=80=99=
d suggest giving it 3 times a day, every 8 hours. Remember that insulinoma=
is a progressive disease. It only worsens over time, and usually not in a=
linear fashion.=20

Adrenal disease can cause muscle wasting, causing the =E2=80=98anorexic=E2=
=80=99 appearance. Even if his total weight isn=E2=80=99t much different, =
his muscle mass may be, and he may be offsetting that loss with a =E2=80=98=
pred belly=E2=80=99. So while his total weight may be similar, his body ap=
pearance is changing.

Adrenal carcinoma could make the deslorelin implant less effective, or poss=
ibly even ineffective. Are you sure that the implant was done properly? J=
ust something to consider. I=E2=80=99d also add a melatonin implant, which=
might help his fur to grow in.=20

Lymphoma is also a possibility. It seems that all too often, I=E2=80=99ve =
been pretty successful in treating my ferrets for insulinoma or adrenal dis=
ease, only to have lymphoma rear its ugly head and be the ultimate cause of=
their final demise. It can lay hidden for a long time, then in the end ra=
pidly take over their body.
